Call for 3rd of August
TO THE PRESS AND PUBLIC
As is known, on the 3rd of August 2014 ISIS attacked Sinjar, massacring thousands of Êzîdîs and taking captive 6000 women and children.400,000 Êzîdîs were forced to flee. ISIS still holds captive 3000Êzîdî women and children at present.
On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the genocide committed by ISIS against theÊzîdî people, we repeat our call forthe 3rd of August to be declared ‘International Day of Action against Femicide and Genocide’. We propose that the 3rd of August be treated as an international day ofaction against femicide, embracing the struggle waged by Êzîdî women as our own by organizing panels, seminars, workshops, TV programs and art exhibitions in order to denounce this crime against humanity as the international community through joint action. Our call is to hold such events and heighten the struggle.
We term the scenarios of war written with regards to the Middle East nothing less than a third world war and emphasize that all kinds of violence are first and foremost attacks and attempts of genocide against the lives and beings of women.
This year we once again call on all the women of the world, democratic women’s organizations and individuals, to observe a moment of silence against fascism and the genocide on the 3rd of August 2018 at 11:00 am local time, carrying black ribbons and voicing our words of resistance against genocide.
We believe that this shall create an opportunity to wage a joint struggle in the face of genocide against peoples and femicide against women inhabiting zones of war and conflict.
It is of great importance to us that written and visual materials regarding events we shall hold on the 3rd of August be shared with you and disseminated across the media. Our invitation is to render widespread among the international community an awareness of the significance of the 3rd of August and boost women’s organizing while doing so.
With this in mind we once again list the actions that are to be held.
- On the 2nd of August we will be on Twitter at 20:00 with the hashtag #3August (3 Ağustos), aiming to raise awareness and create publicity through social media.
- From the 1st to 3rd of August we invite all to hold and host panels, seminars, TV programs and art exhibitions, as well as share visuals regarding the crime against humanity committed on the 3rd of August.
- On the 3rd of August2018 our call is to observe a minute of silence at 11:00 am local time, carry a black ribbon and make a statement to the press.
Wishing to live, all together, in a world without femicide…
The Resistance of Êzidî Women is Our Resistance
